F 0 LIR TH ANNUAL

Inspired Machon Event

In an innovative approach to celebrate
its 27th anniversary, Machon L'Torah-
the Jewish Learning Network of
Michigan will hold a pre-High Holiday
inspirational evening, "An Encounter
With Majesty."
The event will feature presentations
by three nationally known rabbis:
Benzion Twerski of Milwaukee, Dovid
Goldwasser of Brooklyn and Yitzchok
Feldheim of Yardley, Pa. Participants
also will view a video presentation fol-
lowed by a deluxe dessert buffet.
Oak Park-based Machon L'Torah
started as a basement operation by
Rabbi Avraham and Bayla Jacobovitz
and a group of dedicated supporters
to reach out to unaffiliated Jews in the
Detroit area. The need was borne from
a decline in synagogue affiliation and
the rate of children attending Hebrew
school and in the fast-growing rate of
assimilation and intermarriage.
Machon L'Torah quickly developed
into a full-fledged outreach organiza-
tion with home study groups and a
network of lunch-and-learns in law
firms, businesses and hospitals for
Jewish professionals. Machon's main
focus is on outreach to Jewish col-
lege students on seven campuses in
Michigan.
The evening presentation on Sept. 5
is organized by Stuart Snider, Machon
L'Torah's chairman, with the assistance
of Machon's advisory board and staff.

For those wishing to join the
congreation's New Year services, Aish
HaTorah of Metropolitan Detroit and
kosher caterer Phil Tewel will be host-
ing a Rosh Hashanah package at the
Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island on
Sept. 12-16. Contact Aish at (248) 948-
