A palliative care specialist with Beaumont Hospital and Henry Ford Health Systems, Dr. Murphy works daily with terminally ill patients and collaborates with JHCN for spiritual guidance for her Jewish patients. He was 55 and had bat- tled renal failure and diabetes. "He was a devoted father and husband who enjoyed singing very much until he couldn't do it any longer," said his widow, Sandra, of Oak Park. "It helped keep him going. He sang from the heart." Cantor Adler sang at Shabbat services until about a year ago and at High Holiday Cantor Adler services until two years ago. He served the congregation in different capac- ities for more than 10 years. "How that dear man managed to sustain his zest for life and unfail- ingly maintain his good spirits while coping with the relentless physical adversity that he faced for these many years is a mystery to me," said Dr. Martin Herman, first vice president and ritual director at Isaac Agree. He added, "I have lost a dear friend, the Downtown Synagogue has lost a priceless treasure and the community has lost a sweet singer of Israel, a shliach tzsibu. He ELLANORE "ELLE" BRONSTEIN, 89, of Farmington Hills, died Aug. 18, 2007. She was born on Dec. 27, 1917, the daughter of Yetta and Isadore Joseff. Bronstein Her father was the owner of the first kosher restaurant in Detroit, Joseff Brothers. She grew up with memories of sitting on Jack Benny's lap, amongst other famous celebrities when they would come to town and eat at her dad's restaurant. She married Merle J. Bronstein in 1940 and had two children, Harvey Bronstein and Suretta Bronstein Must, who have continued in their mother's footsteps as community activists. Mrs. Bronstein was one of the founding members of Infants Service Group, which delivered food and clothing was truly worthy of the name." Sandra recalls Asher working as a kosher butcher when they met. The two were married for 15 years. Cantor Adler was a Detroit native. His father was Cantor Hyman Adler of Congregation B'nai David. Rabbi Avie Shapiro of the West Bloomfield-based Jewish Home and Chaplaincy Network officiated at Cantor Adler's funeral. Cantor Adler also is survived by his daugh- ter Julie of Oak Park; son and daughter-in- law, Steven and Ilishia Adler of Ramona, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Arnold Wheeler of Tuscon, Ariz; brother and sister-in-law, Haskell and Barbara Adler of Southfield; sister, Priscilla Bachaiov of Farmington Hills; grandchildren Timothy, Mary, Isaac, Andrew; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Bronstein continued to work for Infants Service Group until it finally had to fold just a few years ago, when the remaining members, like she, were all in their late 80s and no longer able to continue their volunteer work. She also raised money for the Penrickton Nursery for the Blind. She worked tire- lessly for these groups and she worked in the retail field in her spare time, lov- ing that as well. She was the manager of a seasonal holiday store for over 20 years; customers came back year after year specifically to receive her special care. She lived independently. Mrs. Bronstein is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Marion Bronstein; daughter and son-in-law, Suretta Bronstein - Must and Alan Must; grandchildren, Eric and Lisa Bronstein, Jason Bronstein,
