THE BEST OF EVERYTHING
Moe Special
A dream deserves a little tinkering o make it come true.
F
our years ago, he threw caution
out the window and made a dar-
ing move ... It was the culmina-
tion of a vision, taking one of his two res-
taurants and creating his dream ... a good,
upscale, family restaurant with low prices.
Moe Leon's first task was to hire an
already prominent chef, experienced in
fine dining ... This, plus much larger
costs, out of necessity produced a higher-
priced menu that was far beyond Moe's
aspiration.
Today, as Moe's On Ten, 10 Mile just
west of Haggerty, Novi, changed from
Leon's Family Dining, celebrates its fourth
anniversary, well on the way to number
five, he is finally enjoying its realized ful-
fillment ... a good, upscale, family restau-
rant with low prices.
It turned out to be such a success that
Moe wasted no time two years later in
switching another Leon's Family Dining to
Moe's On Wixom, South Wixom between
15 Mile and I-96, Wixom.
In the first week after changing to
Moe's On Ten, only 500 customers passed
through the doors ... Quite a difference
from the almost 2,000 that each week
now enjoy Moe's vittles ... In fact, since
the name alteration, 300,000 people have
experienced the informal, up-beat, family-
style cuisine and low prices.
Among the best sellers at Moe's on Ten
have been its whitefish, salmon and lake
perch, included in the 25,000 pounds of
fish it has prepared during the four years
... Also in the running are more than
10,000 pounds of filet and New York strip
steak, over 21,000 pounds of chicken,
an untold amount of salads, more than

10,000 pounds of bar-b-q ribs,
etc., including a whopping
50,000 gallons of premises-
made soups.
The upscale family din-
ing concept is not new, but
being able to offer this at lower
prices is not usually a success-
ful endeavor unless the very
necessary amount of volume is
obtained ... This was something
not achieved by Moe's at the
beginning over four years ago, but with the
necessary change that was most essential
for Moe's high dining at low prices dream,
this achievement was eventually reached
... To get that volume restaurateurs must
give people a reason to return again and
again ... Only then will they be successful
... This Moe has done.
Both Moe's on 10 and Moe's on Wixom
are serving the same menu at the same
hours, with items like whitefish, $11.99;
Atlantic salmon, $13.99; Italian fish chow-
der, $3.50; mushroom chicken Alfredo,
$10.99; shrimp and spinach Alfredo,
$13.99; New York strip steak, $17.99; frog
legs, $13.99; premises-made meatloaf,
$9.99; crab cakes, $16.99; fresh off-the-
bird turkey, $9.99; lemon chicken breast
sautéed in lemon butter and tossed with
asparagus, mushrooms and artichokes,
$10.99, etc. ... Also numerous not-on-
the-menu items that are available at
Friday and Saturday dinner ... Even the
sandwiches have added touches above the
norm, at prices under $8.
A huge success feature when the Leon's
Family Dining name was used had to
be discontinued because the contention

by others was it suppos-
edly "didn't fit in" with the
upscale theme ... Moe has
brought it back with enor-
mous success again ... It is
the Monday-through-Friday
lunch highlight of three
premises-made soup selec-
tion, sandwich (fresh turkey,
hot meat loaf, etc.) and
mashed potatoes, all under
$7 ... a heck of a buy.
The breakfast, lunch and dinner hours
at each location are Monday-Thursday, 7
a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 7-11;
Sunday, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. ... Also on Sunday,
8-2, is a super brunch of around 25 items
that include all the breakfast essentials
and more, $8.99 adults; children 10 and
younger, $4.99.
Moe Leon works the ship on 10 Mile,
while at Wixom his wife, Debra, and their
son Tony run the show.
You like to see nice people be successful
in the restaurant business ... Moe Leon
and his family are among those popular
folks whose success is greeted with plea-
sure.
GOOD TO KNOW that the meat
(lamb chops, steaks, etc.) at the new Chef
Theodore authentic Greek restaurant
will be supplied by Lou Popper and son
Ken of Empire Packing ... It's the best
... Chef Theodore opens this Monday,
Aug. 27, 4 p.m., on Orchard Lake Road,
corner of Pontiac Trail, Orchard Lake ...
Also in the kitchen with co-owner/chef
Theodore Mitropoulos will be two former
Greektown chefs butchering and preparing
the Empire meat.
IT'S NEWS WHEN Chinese restaurants
close because the unfortunate happenings
are so seldom ... The recently shuttered
Pallas Restaurant on Orchard Lake Road
and 12 Mile in Farmington Hills was one
of the region's prettiest, and as of now
there are no plans by the owners to open
elsewhere.
MAIL DEPT. ... "The favorite restau-
rant of my husband, Irwin, and me is
Café Bon Homme on Penniman Street in
Plymouth. It has been consistently won-
derful, both in food quality and service.
We have been dining there for many years
and have never been disappointed. Café
Bon Homme has instituted a new type
of dinner, a Bistro Dinner, which is quite
economical and wonderful. We were there
recently and enjoyed it immensely." ...
Susan Small.
REUNION DEPT. ... Plenty of time
to make plans for the 40th shindig of
Southfield High class of 1967 ... Date has
been set for Saturday evening, Nov. 24, at
Larco's Chop House in Troy ... Call Ronna
Katzman Whiteman, (248) 788-1562.
CONGRATS ... To Hal Brenner on his
70th birthday ... To Yale Phillips on his
80th birthday ... To Bobbie Green on her
60th birthday ... To Hilly Goldman on her
70th birthday ... To Alan Kaczander on

on his 95th birthday ... To Jennie Zeff on
her 100th birthday ... To Gary Tringale on
