The Official Munich
The U.S. Library of Congress on Sept. 5 will show Israel's official
response to Steven Spielberg's 2005 film, Munich, about the 1972
Palestinian terrorist attack on Israel's
Olympic team and Israel's response.
Within days of the massacre,
Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir
secretly ordered the Mossad secret
service to assassinate those respon-
sible for the massacre of 11 Israeli
athletes. Over the next seven years,
more
than a dozen terrorists and
Code Name: Bayonet
plotters were killed in Europe and
the Middle East.
Spielberg's 2005 film was criticized for humanizing the terrorists.
The Library of Congress says Code Name: Bayonet, directed by
Rob Maiberg in 2006, "exposes for the first time the real story of the
Ivlossad's top secret 'Bayonet' unit, which was responsible for Israel's
retaliation!'
The showing is part of the Washington, D.C., library's 10-year-old
Israeli Film Series, in cooperation with the Embassy of Israel. The
movie is based on accounts from Mossad agents and U.S. Central
Intelligence Agency operatives who were involved.
