4-Star Hadassah

New York Hadassah, the Women's
Zionist Organization of America, has
received a four-star rating from Charity
Navigator, an independent charity eval-
uator, highly regarded in the philan-
thropic world for its data-driven analy-
sis that rates charitable organizations
on their ability to efficiently manage
and grow the organization's finances.
According to Charity Navigator, less
than a quarter of the charities evalu-
ated have received this highest rating.
Total philanthropy at Hadassah in
2007 increased to over $150 million
almost twice the $80.7 million received
in 2005 as Hadassah kicks off a major
fundraising campaign for a hospital
tower at its main campus in Jerusalem.

Controversial Prayer

New York/JTA
A key Vatican offi-
cial suggested that a controversial
prayer for the conversion of Jews could
be dropped from the reintroduced
Latin-language rite.
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, secretary
of state at the Vatican and the most
senior official after Pope Benedict
XVI, said at a news conference that
we could simply study" the possibil-
ity of substituting the prayer. He had
been asked about the pope's recent
decree allowing a wider use of the
old Latin prayerbook that was phased
out after the reforms of the so-called
Second Vatican Council.
The Anti-Defamation League said
in a statement that it was pleased the
Vatican was listening to its concerns.

The Answer

While there has been some vigi-
lantism among settlers, including
a recent physical attack on a young
Arab shepherd, the Israeli army
works to prevent violence by polic-
ing the area, investigating incidents
and making arrests.
