starry night on the outdoor patio at Como's
Restaurant in Ferndale set the scene for
the first summer bar night of the season
sponsored by the Young Adult Division of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. More than 125
young adults gathered July 12 for a night of food,
drinks, mingling and music.
David Goldenberg, 31, of
Birmingham used the oppor-
tunity to unwind and make
some new friends. He recently
moved to Metro Detroit from
Los Angeles for a fellowship at
Beaumont Hospital in Royal
Oak.
"Everyone's really nice so
far:' Goldenberg said. "I'm look-
ing forward to meeting more
people."
Some of the partygoers
recently returned from the YAD summer mission
to Israel (June 25-July 5). Others reconnected with
friends they haven't seen in awhile.
"There's a great mix of people said newly induct-
ed YAD president Brad "Bubba" Urdan of West
Bloomfield. "We've got a great group of young Jews
who are trying to get involved."
"It's not just a singles night; there are couples here,
too:' added Rachel Wright of Birmingham, YAD's
social committee chair. "I think the bar nights will
really get the momentum going as we plan more fun
social events for the months to come."
Spotted in the bar night crowd were: Paige Erlich
of Royal Oak; Robert Pensler of Bloomfield Hills;
Jodi Millman of Troy; Shirley and Lenny Cetner
and Jill and Craig Menuck, all of Birmingham; Phil
Okun of Huntington Woods; and Laurel and Joel
Schwartz of West Bloomfield. ._'

The next YAD Summer Bar Night is planned
for 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at 24 Seconds
Bar & Grill in Berkley. For information about
upcoming YAD events, go to Web site:
