World DIGEST Keter Torah Celebrates Keter Torah Synagogue in West Bloomfield, the Sephardic Community of Greater Detroit, will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a dinner on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. The dinner will feature two entertain- ers: Yossi Piamenta from a Sephardic family of Israel and his band the Mizrahi Rockers will play a medley of traditional Jewish, Israeli and Middle Eastern music. Aish Rabbi's Homecoming A former Huntington Woods resident has returned as a three-month summer intern at Huntington Woods-based Aish in the Woods. Rabbi Mordechai McKenney was a yeshivah student in Jerusalem for the past four years. There, he met his wife, Tova, a seminary student. Tova, formerly of Iran and Los Angeles, is a graphic designer. McKenny grew up in Huntington Woods and majored in music education at Butler University in Indianapolis. He taught orchestra in Waterford schools before reconnecting to his Judaism. Aish in the Woods' director Rabbi Simcha Tolwin is pleased that McKenney is on board. "Our focus since coming to the Woods has been to create Jewish expe- riences for families," said Tolwin. "We are creating family events, classes that address family needs and programs that connect parents and children. Rabbi Rabbi Mordechai and Tova McKenney McKenney's experience will greatly enhance our activities. He is a musician, he is trained to work with kids, he is out- going bright and embracing." Women's Mission The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Women's Department will hold "Mosaic: A Women's Mission to Israel;' scheduled for Jan. 27 through Feb. 4, 2008. The goal of the mission is to identify and develop volunteers committed to spread- ing the message of tikkun olam — repair- ing the world — and the way women can contribute to that objective. Under the leadership of co-chairs Lori Garon and Leah Trosch, the mission will tour Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Federation's Partnership 2000 region of the Central Galilee.
