or four years, Allan and Nita Cohen searched for someone to
remodel the upstairs bath of their bungalow home, which
consisted of inefficient space that was completely open to the
master bedroom. It was very much an '80s bathroom. and it had
some decay, but no one seemed to be able to get their head
around our project," Allan explained, noting that water damage is
what pushed them to finally "bite the bullet."

"After visiting various kitchen and bath remodeling stores, we
ended up hiring some interior designers to come up with space
plans and assist with the details. We committed to one of them —
not loving it — but decided to have it bid."

The Cohens chose Gittleman to be one of the parties to quote the
design plan. "It was then that Scott told us he thought we could
do much more with the space, so they drew up a new plan and it
ended up being far better than the plans we got from anyone
else," Allan explained.

Crash Injures Campers

Tamarack bus forced off road
near Marquette.

n July 12, a bus traveling
from Fresh Air Society's
Camp Kennedy in the Upper
Peninsula crashed into a power pole
to avoid two cars turning left into its
path at the intersection of US-41 and
M-28 in Chocolay Township, according
to a report in the Marquette Mining
Journal.
On the Camp Tamarack bus were
about 20 teenage campers and sev-
eral counselors traveling to northern
Minnesota for a canoe trip. According
to police reports, at 10:42 p.m. the
bus was westbound when two east-
bound cars turned left into its path.
In an attempt to avoid the cars, the
bus driver, Olga Semenova, 21, of Oak

Park, swerved and struck a power
pole, which brought down traffic lights
at the intersection.
The cars sped away from the scene,
said police, who were trying to locate
the drivers.
Several campers were taken to
Marquette General Hospital and treat-
ed for neck pain, the Mining Journal
story said.
The others were lodged at the
Comfort Suites of Marquette, with the
assistance of the Red Cross.
The Jewish News contacted the
Fresh Air Society summer office in
Ortonville, but was told that Executive
Director Jonah Geller was the only one
authorized to comment. Geller did not
return several telephone calls over a
two-day period.

Gittleman designed a bathroom for the Cohens that was just what they envisioned, and included a large shower, a
jet tub, a nine-foot dual sink countertop, custom designed cabinets and a custom designed medicine cabinet to fit
in the corner niche of the room. Plus. they now also enjoy an adjacent sitting area.

"Gittleman really utilized the space — we're just so thrilled. They took the initiative to give us what the others
didn't," Nita explained, noting that even theft two children are enjoying the renovations. They love the huge
shower with bench and the huge tub. They take bubble baths and watch T.V."

The Cohens were also pleased that the renovations didn't interfere with their everyday lives. "It wasn't an
inconvenience at all. They put up a screen and contained the dust and nails so that we could still sleep in our
bedroom," Nita said.

"I didn't realize that we should have called Gittleman in the first place...we would've been a lot happier a lot
sooner," Allan said.

So the next time you're faced with a remodeling dilemma, stop searching in all the wrong places and call the people
who can handle the design and build and everything in between all under one umbrella. Call Gittleman first.

JUST ASK THE COHENS.

Bal Tashchit, do not destroy or waste, refers to the biblical prohibition
against the destruction of fruit trees during wartime (Deuteronomy

12:19). It has been interpreted by our ancestors as prohibiting the
destruction of the environment. This includes prohibiting the needless
waste of anything, from food to fuel. Today, in light of the environmen-
tal crisis, using disposables, leaving lights on unnecessarily, over-uti-
lization of air conditioning, or driving a car when it is not necessary
might be considered a violation of the principle of Bal Tashchit.
