Sensational Coleslaw
1 (2.5 lbs.) green cabbage,
outer leaves discarded
1 cup shaved red or Bermuda
onion, optional
1-2 cups shredded carrots
(smaller the shred, less you add)
1 /2 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf
parsley
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
juice of 1 lemon or 1/4 cup
cider vinegar
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. celery seed
salt and pepper to taste
Quarter the cabbage, cut away
the core from each wedge and slice
very thinly, crosswise. Transfer to
a large bowl and break apart the
cabbage with your fingers. Add
remaining ingredients and toss to
coat. Let stand for at least 30 min-
utes (or chill up to a day ahead).
Toss again before serving. Makes
eight servings. II

Marian and Brodsky have stayed
on task during his six years as
coach. The Mustangs have won two
state championships (2003 and
2004) and five consecutive Catholic
League titles. They were state run-
ners-up in 2002 and they fell in the
state semifinals this spring, finish-
ing 17-3-4.
Groves also has done well dur-
ing Brodsky's watch. The Falcons
are 67-26-13 in his five years at the
helm with two Oakland Activities
Association II championships and
one district title, earned last season
with a 1-0 victory over neighborh-
hod nemesis Birmingham Brother
Rice.
Brodsky lost nine senior starters
from last year's 19-3-2 Groves team,
so the upcoming season could be a
challenging one. Senior midfielder
Alec Cohen, one of the first players
off the bench last year, is expected
to move into a starting role. fl
