Salon Matisse Welcomes Jessica Tama! Bloomfield Jewish Community Center for dinner. He saw some fliers and sought more information. "Wearing of the Greens has been done in California and Florida," Rothman says. "Good plays have a lot of conflict and confrontation, and this one has all that. "I really delve into the nature of the characters, and I write funny charac- ters and funny attitudes. I don't con- sider myself a joke writer. I consider myself a storyteller:" Enjoying the humor of the play are three Jewish cast members — Andrea Briggs (daughter Liz Green) of Beverly Hills, Joel Fabian (father Jack Green) of Oak Park and Stephen Sussman (son Mel Green) of Bloomfield Township. "This play has a lot of things people can relate to in their own lives," says Briggs, 47, who has been active in community theater for three years. "It has the kind of situations that people don't often talk about." Fabian, 60, an accountant partici- pating in community theater for 35 years, appreciates the opportunity to work with a TV and stage professional. "This part is the third Jewish char- acter I've played since joining this group," says Sussman, 57, an architect who became active with the troupe after the commitment of his wife, Kathy, and daughters Rachel and Hillary. The family also is active with Temple Israel. Rothman's audiences will have plentiful opportunities to hear his Hollywood stories, which have become the subject of another play he hopes to produce locally. Each performance will be followed with question-and-answer sessions. "I was 23 when I started working on The Odd Couple,"says Rothman, who enjoys Detroit baseball and casinos as well as cryptic crossword puzzles. "In those days, just my writing partner and I were about the only ones in that age group. Now, it seems everybody doing that job is about 23." The Wearing of the Greens will be performed 7:30 p.m. Fridays- Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, July 13-22, at the Starlight Theater inside the Summit Place Mall, 315 N. Telegraph, in Waterford. $10-$14. Call (248) 661-0496 or (310) 386-0333 or go to www.starlighttheater.net .
