"Some of Israel's mid- to large-
size start-ups need horsepower,"
said Cantor Colburn partner
Michael Cantor of Bloomfield,
Conn. He said Lederman "could
open doors and expedite our
Israeli business development."
"The Israel IP bar is relatively
small and Robyn knew just about
everyone;' he said.
Lederman's Israeli clients are
developers, manufacturers and
providers in the fields of ultra-
sound machines for body contour-
ing; teleconferencing; crop protec-
tion; and networking.
Cantor Colburn has tapped into
Israel's resurgence in patent and
trademark prosecution in such
fields as agrichemical, medical
devices, life sciences and alterna-
tive energy. Israel is where VoIP
(voice over Internet) first achieved
commercial application. Israeli
scientific breakthroughs include
new drugs for Alzheimer's, mul-
tiple sclerosis, diabetes, influenza
and acne; enhanced cancer fight-
ing; and stem cell research.
Israeli companies seeking pat-
ent and technology protection are
busy developing: drones that can
fly for two days nonstop; micro-
drones that fit in a backpack; a
Global Positioning System for the
human body; kosher cell phones;
a way to extract oil from sludge; a
robot to navigate our arteries.
Lederman will chair the kick-
off event of the Michigan Israel
Business Bridge in September.
Lederman said her three kids
love being near their cousins,
aunts and uncles here in Detroit.
"The second we landed in
Michigan:' she said, "it was as if
they never lived anywhere else."
Still, the family stays in touch
with relatives and friends in Israel.
And it supports the Michigan
Friends of the Israel Defense
Forces.
"The return to Michigan
has been good for my family;'
Lederman said.
