Oak Park, MI 48237 Expert Consultation - Select Quality Granite 62 July 5 4 2007 Visiting Michigan Rabbi David Greenstein (above), rosh hayeshivah (head of school) of the Riverdale, N.Y.-based Academy for Jewish Religion (AJR), a plural- istic rabbinical and cantorial school, recently led a study session for the Bloomfield Township-based Michigan Board of Rabbis. The event was part of a yearlong nationwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the AJR, which has staff and students from all the different religious movements in Judaism today. Greenstein spoke about an article he has recently published, "Open the Gates of Righteousness for Me: An Opening Toward a New Reading of the Torah in Light of the New Status of Gays and Lesbians in the Jewish Community" Using biblical, rabbinic and modern halachic (Jewish law) sources, Greenstein presented ideas and stimulated discussion. During his visit, Greenstein also addressed the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School's faculty and was keynote speaker at the Melton graduation. Among Michigan clergy, those ordained at AJR are Rabbi Dorit Edut of Temple Israel in Bay City and Cantor Marisa Krisheff of Ahavas Israel in Grand Rapids.
