Michelle Elizabeth Torby (Shira Eliana)
was called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, June 30, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue in Farmington Hills. She is the
daughter of proud parents, Dr. David and
Joyce Torby, and the dear younger sister
of Alyssa. Sharing in the simchah was her

grandfather Kenneth
Torby. Michelle is also
the granddaughter of the
late Mildred Torby and
the late Alice and Aaron
Lenhoff.
Michelle is a student
at Warner Middle School
Torby
in Farmington Hills. She
found her volunteer work
building a sukkah and planting flowers at
two JARC homes spiritually rewarding.

Scholarships Awarded

The Scholarship Committee of the Zionist
Organization of America Michigan Region
awarded 23 grants to Michigan-area
students bound for Israel on educational
programs.
Each applicant was required to write
an essay on "What Israel and Zionism
Mean To Me." The scholarship committee
included co-chairs Beverly Baker and Toby
Schlussel, and Sabina Heller and Rayna
Kogan.
Recipients are Avrahami Benjamin,
Devorah Bennish, Anchel Berkman,
Ahuvah Blumenfeld, Lyla Craft, Cristina
Alexandra, Estie Groundland, Adam
Horwitz, Cara Kleiman, Miriam Leaf,
Sarah Levin, Rebecca Levin, Molly Mardit,
Esther Michlin, Hallie Platt, Danielle
Prizament, Berrie Schwartz, Leiba
