four years, Allan and Nita Cohen searched for someone to
remodel the upstairs bath of their bungalow home, which
consisted of inefficient space that was completely open to the
master bedroom. "It was very much an '80s bathroom, and it had
some decay, but no one seemed to be able to get their head
around our project," Allan explained, noting that water damage is
what pushed them to finally "bite the bullet."

"After visiting various kitchen and bath remodeling stores, we
ended up hiring some interior designers to come up with space
plans and assist with the details. We committed to one of them —
not loving it — but decided to have it bid."
The Cohens chose Gittleman to be one of the parties to quote the
design plan. "It was then that Scott told us he thought we could
do much more with the space, so they drew up a new plan and it
ended up being far better than the plans we got from anyone
else," Allan explained.
Gittleman designed a bathroom for the Cohens that was just what they envisioned, and included a large shower, a
jet tub, a nine-foot dual sink countertop, custom designed cabinets and a custom designed medicine cabinet to fit
in the corner niche of the room. Plus, they now also enjoy an adjacent sitting area.
"Gittleman really utilized the space — we're just so thrilled. They took the initiative to give us what the others
didn't," Nita explained, noting that even their two children are enjoying the renovations. "They love the huge
shower with bench and the huge tub. They take bubble baths and watch T.V."
The Cohens were also pleased that the renovations didn't interfere with their everyday lives. "It wasn't an
inconvenience at all. They put up a screen and contained the dust and nails so that we could still sleep in our
bedroom," Nita said.
"I didn't realize that we should have called Gittleman in the first place...we would've been a lot happier a lot
sooner," Allan said.

RENOVATIONS
LUSH LAVENDER: Iris Lee and Mel Underwood offer relaxing country expe-
riences as they open up their Yule Love It Lavender Farm. The summertime
drive up to the city of Leonard ends with immersion into the sweet fragrance of
the plant as speakers, artists, cooks and activity leaders show what makes laven-
der soothing and settling. The Third Annual Yule Love It Lavender Festival runs
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Saturday, July 20-21. Friday's experiences offer gardening
insights, ecology folklore, yard art and herbal teas, while Saturday's subjects delve
into tree body language and French gardens. A craft tent holds lavender wands
and wreaths as well as card and sachet demonstrations. Kids, admitted for free,
get to stomp and sniff, paint rocks, join nature games and learn about clothespin
people. Lavender-inspired artwork, poetry, bakeoffs, cosmetics and messages
round out the event. $7 admission fee includes parking, shuttle, speaker sympo-

CARS AND GUITARS: Bob Mould, founding member of the band Husker
Du, helps celebrate the exhibit Rock Stars' Cars & Guitars on view through Sept.
30 at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. The concert — starting at 6:30
p.m. Thursday, July 12, and costing $22-$26 — complements the items on view.
The cars include a 1951 Mercury steered by David Lee Roth, a 1967 Chevrolet
Camaro owned by Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion and a Rolls-Royce Phantom
V that chauffeured John Lennon. The 30 guitars come from legends such as
Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and the band Metallica. Items on display represent
collections of the Petersen Automotive Museum, Hard Rock Cafe, Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Experience Music Project and private lend-

NOW STREETBALLERS: The names Mr. 720, Spyda and Special FX are
familiar to the fans of Streetball, shown on ESPN. These players and many oth-
ers can be seen in person at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, when the Ball4Real
Streetball World Tour makes an appearance at Cobo Arena in Detroit. A bonus
for fans with hoop skills just before the professional play: The event features a
pre-game Block Party to pick four lucky contestants to represent Detroit against
the touring team in the show. Local players also will have a chance to join the
tour, be featured on TV and get a shot at winning a contract as a Ball4Real play-
