Busy schedules make it tough to follow an exercise regimen, let alone find time for proper food preparation. Sixty- year-old Jeff Howard of Bloomfield Hills is the exception. He was very successful losing weight on his own program. "I'm 6-foot-1 and most of my life, I weighed about 175 pounds. During the last 15 years, however, I slacked off and gained 50 pounds. As a result, I wasn't feeling well and lacked energy. That just wasn't how I wanted to live — so I elimi- nated alcohol, restricted my diet of refined carbohydrates, reduced the portions of my meals and began an exercise program of aerobic and weight training for two hours, five times a week. The first two or three months were tough, but then it became my lifestyle; I was able to increase my metabolism and lose the weight." A recipe for losing weight doesn't usually call for eating six cookies daily. But cook- ies are exactly what helped 45-year-old Joni Wycinski of Almont lose 50 pounds. "I had worked for a hospital weight- management system previously and knew the ins and outs of the business," says Goldstein (shown above with her husband, Jeffrey Wycinski).
