en Etkin, 86, of West
Bloomfield, died June 22,
2007.
He was a World War II veteran
who met and married his lifelong
partner and best friend, Rita, while
in the service. When
he returned from
service, he became
a trained economist
and spent more than
50 successful years
in the development of
real estate.
From concept to
reality, his special
insight brought to fru-
ition comprehensive
real estate programs.
Ben Etkin
Through his personal
direction, he suc-
ceeded in realizing the final devel-
opment of numerous multi-million
dollar projects, began building
homes throughout Oakland County
through his company Etkin Built
and moved on to building and devel-
oping larger-scale developments
including apartment communities,
shopping centers, hotels and large
office complexes. He also consulted
for companies such as Honeywell
Inc., Northwestern Mutual Life
and Prudential Insurance Co. of
America.
Mr. Etkin was also a staunch sup-
porter of Israel, having visited there
many times. He also supported the
general Jewish communities as well
as Red Cross and other relief orga-
nizations.

He was a member of
Congregation Brnai Moshe. He
enjoyed traveling the world with his
best friend and wife, Rita. He most
enjoyed snorkeling in the waters of
St. Croix in the Virgin Islands.
The accomplishment
he was proudest of
was his children who
followed his footsteps.
His three children are
currently running the
family business he
founded almost 60
years ago.
Mr. Etkin is sur-
vived by his wife of
60 years, Rita Etkin;
son and daughter-in-
law, Harold and Judy
Etkin of Farmington
Hills; daughters and son-in-law,
Johanne Etkin-Finley and William
Finley of Novi, Helen Etkin of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren, Nicole,

The family would like to give a
special thank you to the doctors for
taking such wonderful care of their
husband and father during his last
days. They included Dr. Geoffrey
Trivax, Dr. Issac Grinberg and Dr.
Marc Arnkoff.
