funky, urban art museum
brimming with creativ-
ity and outside-the-box
thinking was a fitting place to bring
together a group of young leaders
— the future innovators of Detroit's
Jewish community.
About 80 young adults gathered at
the Museum of Contemporary Art in
Detroit for cocktails, hors d'oeuvres,
mingling and music. The May 16
event recognized members of the
Ben-Gurion Society, donors younger
than 45 who make a minimum
individual gift of $1,000 or more to
Federation's Annual Campaign.
"This was our kickoff event:'
explained Anessa Kramer of
Bloomfield Hills. She served as a
co-chair with her husband, David,
and Susan and Andrew Shapack
of Franklin. "We're reinvigorating
this program. We plan to have more
speakers, trips and social events
and really make this a group where
people can get involved and be ener-
gized!'
Participants strolled through the
cavernous art space, a former car

dealership, admiring pieces from the
contemporary art collection of Burt
Aaron. The private collector from
Ann Arbor is a longtime Federation
supporter. More than 140 rarely seen
works from his collection are on
display through July 29 in an exhibit
called "STUFF."
"It was a hip, fun setting. We
wanted people to relax, network and
really get to know each other:' said
Kramer who recently returned from
a Federation trip to New Orleans
where she met Jewish victims of
Hurricane Katrina.
"We all find ourselves in different
positions at different times in our
lives. It's nice that we can give now
because you never know when you'll
need to receive!"
