nder gray skies, military veterans from three countries joined together on Sunday, May 27, to remember
Jewish military personnel who died in service to their countries. Memorial Day was the next day, May 28.
The Department of Michigan Jewish War Veterans of the USA and Ladies Auxiliary, along with the
Canadian and Russian Jewish war veterans, gathered at Machpelah Cemetery in Ferndale and then at Hebrew
Memorial Cemetery in Clinton Township to be led in memorial services by JWV Chaplain Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz
of Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills.
Taps were sounded by Ben Duchan, 15, of Berkley and Ryan Kott, 14, of Ferndale. Also lending support were
members of Venturing Crew 18 of the Boy Scouts of America.
The event was under the direction of JWV State Commander Jerry Order and State Auxiliary President Myra
Gross, with Izzy Sigal heading up the Canadian contingent and Anatoly Granovesky leading the Russian veterans.
The mix of elder veterans with the younger participants was a fitting blend for the memorial services to those
who served so honorably.
