Israeli Youths Reach Out

Jerusalem/JTA Israeli youths have
created a Web site designed to help
them argue their country's case to
counterparts abroad.
Israel Online For You, at www.
israell .org, marks the culmination
of a year's work by 40 girls and boys
from all over the Jewish state in col-
laboration with the Foreign Ministry
in Jerusalem. Using the multilingual
site, the Israeli teenagers have com-
municated with foreign counterparts
interested in the situation in Israel.
"They take part in various online
activities such as replying to talk-
backs, participating in forums and
organizing online petitions:' the
Foreign Ministry said in a statement
Monday, adding that the scope of
the project will be expanded over
the coming year. "They have even e-
mailed the Iranian president protest-
ing his derogatory remarks regarding
Israel."

Sudan Refugees Reunited
Tel Aviv/JTA A Sudanese refugee
couple was reunited with a daughter
lost as they fled to Israel. Marhum and
Kikongu Bashir, and their 4-year-old
daughter, Venus, were among a group
of Sudanese who fled the fighting in
Darfur and tried this month to slip
across the Egyptian border into Israel.
Under Egyptian army fire, the
Bashirs made it across the border,
but in the ensuing confusion Venus
disappeared in the Egyptian Sinai.
News of the refugee family's plight
reached Jerusalem, prompting Aliza
Olmert, the wife of Prime Minister
Ehud Olmert, to appeal for help to
Susan Mubarak, the wife of Egyptian
President Hosni Mubarak. Venus
was soon located and on Friday was
brought to Eilat, where she was met by
her parents.
Scores of Sudanese refugees have
come to Israel in recent months, stir-
ring a debate on whether the country
should give them permanent asylum.

Israel Launches Air Strike

Jerusalem/ JTA An Israeli air strike
killed four Palestinian terrorists in the
Gaza Strip. Monday's attack destroyed
a car carrying four members of
Islamic Jihad in Gaza City.
Islamic Jihad described the dead as
a rocket crew on its way to fire into
Israel. Israel has stepped up its air
strikes as part of a Cabinet decision
Sunday on combating cross-border
rocket salvoes from Gaza.
