Learners Abound

Melton Adult Mini-School to graduate its largest class.

T

he Florence Melton Adult Mini-
School of Metropolitan Detroit
will graduate 142 students who
completed two years of in-depth Judaic
studies.
This is the largest class of Melton
graduates since the school opened in
the Detroit area in the early 1990s. It
is a program of Federation's Alliance
for Jewish Education and the Jewish
Community Center.
The graduation will take place 7 p.m.
Wednesday, May 30, at the JCC in West
Bloomfield. Rabbi David Greenstein,
rosh yeshivah/rabbinic dean of the
Academy for Jewish Religion, will speak
on "Rabbi Akiva — From Illiterate
Shepherd to Brilliant Scholar."
The graduation will also honor the
instructors for 2005-07: Rabbi Sara
O'Donnell Adler, Keren Alpert, Ruth
Bergman, Rabbi Lauren Berkun, Rabbi
Dorit Edut, Rabbi Michele Faudem,
Aviva Panush, Dr. Mitch Parker and
Zohar Raviv.

Dr. Lynda Giles will deliver greetings
and a congratulatory message from
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit. The meeting will be followed
by the official dedication of the Acts of
Loving Kindness: Gimelut Chasadim
program brick pavers and of Henry's
Way, a gateway communal garden locat-
ed outside Fleischman Residence.
Lawrence A. Tower will be the
installing officer for JHAS and JHAS
Foundation officers and board mem-
bers. The JHAS slate includes Mark
Kowalsky, president; Ken Goss, first
vice president; Joel Smith, second vice
president; Matt Leste, third vice presi-
dent; Geri Margolis, secretary; Mitchell
Kantor, treasurer; Cindy Schwartz,
immediate past president.
The JHAS foundation slate includes
Lawrence M. Slutsky, president; Pearlena

Bloomfield Hills resident Sandy
Muskovitz Danto has been nominated
to be president of Jewish Family Service.
The election and installation of JFS
officers will take place
at the annual meet-
ing 7 p.m. Monday,
June 4, at the Jewish
Community Center in
West Bloomfield.
Danto has served
on the JFS board since
1999, including the
Danto
past three years on
the executive committee. She has been a
transportation volunteer for eight years,
co-chaired the JFS Volunteer Committee
and has served on various JFS com-
mittees. She is a member of the Mentor
Connection and NORC advisory boards.
Also nominated to the JFS execu-
