She par- ticipated in many mitzvah projects, and found it most meaningful to give a donation of money she earned to the Karmanos Cancer Institute in memory of her Grandma Roz. Benjamin Hy Schechter of Seattle, Wash., was called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah Saturday, April 28, at Temple Beth Am. He is the son of Greg and Julia Benjamin Schechter, brother of Schechter Aaron. Sharing in the simchah were his grandparents Robert and Bluma Schechter of Detroit. He is also the grandchild of the late Marvin and late Nancy Silverman. Ben attends Bush School. For his mitzvah project, he volunteered at the food center of Seattle Jewish Family Service. Attending Orchard Lake Middle School in West Bloomfield, Erica felt it was especially meaningful as a mitz- vah project to volunteer at Gleaners Food Bank in Detroit. Jenna Brooke Schwack will be called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah Saturday, May 26, at Congregation Beth Shalom. Celebrating with her will be Schwack Rabbi Dan and Susan Wolpe, mother and stepfather; brothers Jake and Alex; great-grandmother Lillian Israel of Orlando, Fla.; grandparents Carol Hauser of Orlando and Rabbi Gerald and Elaine Wolpe of Philadelphia, Pa.; and father, Gary Schwack of Orlando. Jenna is a seventh-grade student at Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington Hills. For her mitzvah project, Jenna participated in a variety of fundraising activities for AIDS awareness in memory of Rabbi Cyndi Culpepper. Leah Brooke Snider will read from the Torah as she celebrates her bat mitzvah at Temple Israel Saturday, May 26. She is the daughter of Snider Stephanie and Paul Snider and the sister of Shelby. Joining in the simchah will be her grandparents Harriet Maza, Dr. Bernard Maza, Kit and Dr. Eugene Snider and her great-grandmother Lillian Gilman. Leah attends Orchard Lake Middle School in West Bloomfield.
