Stanley "Hank" Marx, 83, of
Birmingham, recently earned his
master of arts degree at Wayne
State University, Detroit. His major
was alternative dispute resolu-
tion through the Interdisciplinary
Studies Program in the College of
Liberal, Fine, and Communication
Arts. His master's thesis concerns
the use of mediation in police work.

Alex Gorosh of West Bloomfield, a
graduating senior at the University
of Michigan, received the Kasdan
Scholarship in Creative Writing at
the Hopwood Awards in April. The
award was for his screenplay Word
Love.

Jeffrey Jenks, Huntington Woods
city commissioner, has been named
a Taubman Fellow and will attend
the Program for Senior Executives
in State and Local Government at
Harvard this summer. Jenks has
been a city commissioner since
1999.

The Metropolitan Detroit
Chapter of the American Jewish
Committee received the Szabad
Chapter Excellence Award at this
year's national annual meeting
in Washington. The award is pre-
sented annually to the chapter that
has excelled in programming. The
program cited was "In Our Own
Voices: Muslim Voices in Detroit —
Messages to the Jewish Community"
The chapter received $2,000 in
future programming funds.
