r. A. Robert Arnstein, 76, former
Detroiter of Bainbridge Island,
Wash., died April 30, 2007.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1930, in St.
Louis, to Frederick Albert Arnstein and
Virginia Nathan. He and his wife moved
to Bainbridge Island three years ago from
Birmingham.
Dr. Arnstein was a member
of the Birmingham Temple.
He committed his life to car-
ing for others in his roles as
husband, father, doctor and
teacher.
He did undergraduate
work at Princeton, graduat-
ing in 1952. He began his
medical career at Washington
Dr. Arnstein
University School of Medicine,
Massachusetts General Hospital and
Stanford University Hospital, where he was
chief resident in 1961. Through outstanding
teaching and research, Dr. Arnstein became
head of endocrinology at Wayne State
University School of Medicine in Detroit.
After many years of private patient care, he
finished his career teaching young physi-
cians at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
Dr. Arnstein chaired the Ethics Committee
of the Oakland County Medical Society. He is
remembered for his compassion, intelligence,
sense of humor and love for his family.
He is survived by his wife,
Rita; sons, Jeff, Larry (Noriko
Tobe), and Ted (Alison
Koff); five grandchildren;
brother, Frederick; sister-in-law
Dolly; many new friends on
Bainbridge Island.
A memorial service will be
held 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 22,
at the Birmingham Temple,
28611 W. 12 Mile, Farmington
Hills. A reception will follow at the temple.
Contributions may be made to the Hospice
of Kitsap County Washington or the
Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by

HARRIET BENJAMIN, 77, of Leesburg,
Fla., died May 11, 2007.
An English teacher at Andover High
School, she was well loved by her stu-
dents. Mrs. Benjamin was also a member
of the University of Michigan Alumni
Association and a member of WAND.
She is survived by her husband, James
Benjamin of Leesburg; daughters and
sons-in-law, Carol and William Walker
of Franklin, Joanne Newman and Robin
"Roger" Smith of Troy; grandchildren,
Danny Walker, Josh Walker, Maxwell
Smith and Lilly Smith; James' chil-
dren, Claire and Dan Brown, Michael
Benjamin, Scott and Eileen Benjamin
and Mark Benjamin.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to
a charity of one's choice. Arrangements
by Ira Kaufman Chapel.

GERALD "JERRY" DUBRINSKY, 67, of
West Bloomfield, died May 9, 2007.
He was in the scrap metal business
that was started by his grandfather.
He worked with his father and created
the Philip Dubrinsky Enterprises and
became partners with his brother Irving.
He was also a member of the Knights of
Phythias.
Mr. Dubrinsky is survived by his wife,
Phyllis Dubrinsky of West Bloomfield;
STUART B. FREEDMAN, 69, of
Farmington Hills, died May 8, 2007.
He is survived by his beloved wife
Sonia Freedman; son and daughter-in-
law, Dr. Michael and Andrea Freedman
of Pepper Pike, Ohio; daughter and son-
in-law, Mindy and Bruce Ruben of West
Bloomfield; sisters, Harriet Freedman of
