ORT America's Ongoing
Commitment to Israeli
Students Provides
Unsurpassed Educational
Opportunities,
ORT America changes lives, student by student,
around the globe. We welcome this responsibility
as part of our 127-year heritage of tikkun olam-
improving the world—and our firm belief in the
power of education to meet every challenge.
In light of recent organizational restructuring, we
want to assure you that ORT America's support of
Israeli students and Israel-based programs continues
without compromise. We take pride in sharing some
of the many ways your ongoing contributions to
ORT America strengthen communities throughout
Israel by providing educational opportunities to
students that need them most.
ORT America supports "Science Journey:' a
science and technology intervention project at 30
Israeli schools countrywide identified as in urgent
need of financial, logistical and professional
assistance. Designed to ensure Israel's future
workforce has the skills and knowledge necessary
to succeed professionally as well as maintain
Israel's reputation for scientific and technological
breakthroughs, this multimillion-dollar program
provides state-of-the-art laboratories to schools
never before assisted by a Jewish organization
outside of the country.
As part of this immediate response to the 60%
unemployment among these new residents, children's
textbooks, transportation to school, lab equipment
costs and more are subsidized by your donations
to ORT America. "Student at Risk" has also come
to the aid of schools in the north devastated by the
2006 conflict—as well as border-town schools now
under daily rocket attack—by providing science,
computer and electronic labs to students struggling
to resume normal educational life.
"Teaching with Modern Technology"—a new global
ORT network/Bar Ilan University/Technion/VVeitzman
Institute partnership—focuses on the impact of recent
technological innovations on teaching opportunities,
with exciting implications for Israeli students and
our worldwide teacher-training programs.
ORT America also co-sponsors scholarships in
Israel, including the Tendler Scholarship in memory
of ORT alumna Sergeant Major Keren Tendler—a
highly regarded onboard flight mechanic who lost
her life in battle in 2006—to encourage women to go
into the male-dominated field of flight mechanics.
Additionally, ORT America provides yearly scholarships
to the Hatter Technology Seminar in London, which
updates Israeli teachers to the latest bioscience
and technology innovations, and their implications
on curriculum and employment opportunities.
Our tradition teaches that to give a person the
means to a livelihood is the highest form of giving.
It is this time-honored maxim that guides our efforts
in Israel and throughout the world. It is only through
your generosity and ongoing support that we will
continue to succeed in this all-important mission.
It is with great respect and gratitude that we count
on your continued commitment to ORT America.
Again my appreciation,

Our international "Student at Risk" program was
recently expanded to include regions in Israel
absorbing families from the Gaza disengagement.
