Before returning to Michigan, where
he lived until the 1970s, Perry worked
with his dad in the nonprofit Credit
Counselors Corp. After his dad retired
and closed the business in 2002, Perry,
52, did some corporate consulting
and now is in the process of changing
careers. He has conducted seminars
and accepted administrative work in
the entertainment field.
While Perry was helping people
with credit problems, he made radio
and television appearances, including
one with Oprah Winfrey.
Perry, whose wife is the former Judy
Walt, first met his spouse when they
were teen members of B'nai B'rith
Youth Organization. Married for 15
years, they got to know each other for
a second time at a B'nai B'rith reunion
in Michigan, where they decided to
live because her family remains here.
Perry has a grown son from a previ-
ous marriage.
"My sister Nina and I had the first
combined bar and bat mitzvah at
Temple Israel," says Perry, who gradu-
ated from Birmingham Groves High
School. "We're about one year apart,
and we celebrated in the time frame
that came between our birthdays:'
Perry, who thought about becoming
a professional baseball player, has run
in marathons. With the diversity of his
