Rabbi Berkun is a founding mem-
ber of the Jewish and African
American Clergy Alliance of
Metropolitan Detroit, with whom
he participated in a 2002 10-day
interfaith mission of rabbis and
African American ministers to
Senegal, West Africa, and Israel.
The Gospel-Klezmer concerts and
Black-Jewish Passover seders he
spearheaded were awarded national
recognition by the Religious Action
Center of Reform Judaism for out-
standing Black-Jewish relations.
Reflecting on his time at Shaarey
Zedek and in Michigan, he said,

Shavuot Study Session

Adat Shalom Synagogue's annual
Tikkun Leil Shavuot in Farmington
Hills will take place Tuesday night,
May 22. The evening will begin at 8
p.m. with festival services, followed
by refreshments.
Study sessions will extend until
1 a.m. Clergy and educators will
teach words of Torah. The following
