Krystyna is offering special Mother's Day packages to pamper yourself and
Mom on your special day. Melt away stress and luxuriate with one of our

Chamber Music Society of Detroit, and the rest are with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra (DSO). Bronfman, whose career began in the Soviet Union and
moved on to Israel before he settled in the United States, has not revealed his
first program but plans a Rachmaninoff piece with the symphony. The Grammy-
winning pianist, also involved with celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the
Israel Philharmonic, will appear 8 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Seligman
Performing Arts Center, 22305 W. 13 Mile, Beverly Hills. $25-$75. (248) 855-

\AV ESOM E AUTHORS Detroit's own Lee Iacocca, whose new book Where
Have All the Leaders Gone? tackles today's issues, is among five authors headlin-
ing the 70th luncheon of the Book and Author Society. Also featured are novelist
Elizabeth Berg (Dream When Youre Feeling Blue), mystery writer Laura Lippman
(What the Dead Know), satirist Christopher Buckley (Boomsday) and TV per-
sonality Chuck Barris (The Big Question). The event is Monday, May 21, at the
Burton Manor, 27777 Schoolcraft, Livonia. Authors gather at 11 a.m. to sign
books and talk one-on-one with buyers. Lunch is served at noon, and formal
presentations start at 1 p.m. $30. (734) 397-0999.

POLITICAL WOMEN Karenna Gore Schiff, the
daughter of Al and Tipper Gore, looked for an uplifting
project after her dad's defeat in the 2000 presidential race.
She found it as the author of Lighting the Way: Nine Women
Who Changed Modern America (Miramax Books; $23.35).
Schiff (right) discusses her book before members and
guests of the Jewish Women's Foundation of Metropolitan
Detroit during a luncheon meeting that starts noon Thursday,
May 31, at Knollwood Country Club, 5070 W. Maple, West
Bloomfield. Moving away from well-known achievers, Schiff
scouted lesser-known stories of inspiration
and found the impact of people like Frances
Perkins, who worked to establish Social
Security programs; Mother Jones, who orga-
nized coal miners; and Septima Clark, who
helped register black voters in the South.
Her book will be available at the event. $100.
