BELATED BIRTHDAY The 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart fell on Jan. 27, 2006, but the Michigan Opera Theatre will celebrate it May 12-19, when the company presents Abduction, the work performed most frequently during the composer's life- time. The piece, presented in English, makes its MOT debut as it tells the story of two couples who overcome the ravages of fate and circumstance to be together. The hero rescues his love, her maid and the maid's lover after the three have been abducted by pirates and sold into slavery. Sopranos Elizabeth Futral (right) and Leah Partridge divide performances as Konstanze, the cap- tured lover. Other cast members include Tenor Shawn Mathey as Belmonte, Amanda Pabyan as Blondchen and Gregory Fran as Osmin. Steven White is conduc- tor, and Dona Vaughn is director. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12, and Wednesday-Saturday, May 16-19, at the Detroit Opera House, 1526 Broadway. There also is a performance at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13. $28-$110.
