Ste. Anne's Country Inn and Spa, Grafton, Ontario

Wearing a robe to dinner may be a new experience, but one you'll quickly grow accus-

tomed to during a stay at Ste. Anne's, located an hour east of Toronto. This sybaritic

escape in the Ontario hills grew from an 1850s country manor into Canada's largest

destination spa and has been in business since 1985.

A relaxed mood prevails at the estate-style property, part of a large spa village.

With only 29 guest rooms in the main inn and a variety of stand-alone spa "cottages"

(as well as more than 500 acres of picturesque grounds), there are plenty of opportu-

nities for both exercise and personal pampering. Opt for a soothing Moor mud bath

(an unusual experience derived from specially mixed Ontario muds) or one of the new

Caribbean-style treatments featuring Aveda's new tropical line (Ste. Anne's is an Aveda

signature spa).

The food (enjoyed in the comfort of your robe if you so choose) features local

produce, herbs from the spa's organic garden and freshly baked bread. Ste. Anne's

was recently voted No. 1 spa in Canada by SpaFindercom's "Spa Readers' Choice

Awards" and listed in the 100 Best Spas In The World, by Bernard Burt and Pamela

Joy Price, who called it "conducive to sybaritic soaks in the hot tub, sunset walks and

mother-daughter days." Special spring rates start at $299 per person and include spa

cottage accommodations, afternoon tea, a four-course dinner, $150 spa credit and

use of all facilities. (888) 346-6772; spavillage.ca
