Langensiepen,
a fabric artist
working out of a home stu-
dio in Beverly Hills, shows
dolls, purses and pillows at
the Birmingham Fine Art
Festival, being held May
12-13 in Shain Park.
Langensiepen, who par-
ticipates in about seven
shows a year, strives to
bring new items to each
event. She wants each
piece to be modern, ele-
gant and timeless.
"I've done adult dolls
with blank faces, so that
viewers can imagine their
own faces on the dolls
they choose, and sweater
purses with lots of pock-
ets," says the 40ish fab-
Julie Langensiepen: Fabric art.
ric artist, who earned a
bachelor's degree at the
Pratt Institute in New York and started her career as a rug designer.
Langensiepen, attracted to the tactile qualities of fabric, collects rem-
nants, many provided by a relative who is a furniture retailer. Her work
has been shown at the JCC's Janice Charach Epstein Gallery and the
Birmingham Temple.
"My husband and two sons help me with the hauling and toting of my
materials and final works," she says. "They also help with their opinions
of what I'm doing."
