Jewish Cabaret
The Sholem Aleichem Institute
will sponsor a lecture by Dr. Neil
Jacobs of Ohio State University at
2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Jewish
Community Center in Oak Park.
The talk is titled "The Jewish
Cabaret of Europe" and will focus on
the social and environmental chang-
es that enabled Yiddish cabarets of
yesteryear to maintain a distinctive
Jewish flavor and yet blend with the
general cabarets of Warsaw, Berlin,
Amsterdam and Vienna. Dr. Jacobs
will also discuss the influence of
the Yiddish language on American
Jewish life today.
The event will honor the memory
of Moishe Haar, the late community
leader and director and school
principal of the Sholem Aleichem
Institute. The public is invited;
there is no charge.
