nies concerned with making money
rather than preventing and easing
sickness. He argues that while the
universal health care found in other
countries is not perfect, it surpasses
the system faced by the majority of
Americans. Finally, he makes a plea
for a universal coverage with a single-
payer system regulated by the govern-
ment.
Health care, he says, is sure to be the
biggest domestic issue on the table for
the 2008 presidential election.

Shia Soars Ahead
It's not too often this column cov-
ers an actor twice in one month,
but Shia LaBeouf, 20, is a favorite,
and things are really breaking for
him. As previously reported, even
before LaBoeuf had his bar mitz-
vah, he went out on his own and
built an acting career that saved
the lives of his drug-addicted father
and his financially drowning Jewish
mother.
His new film,
Disturbia, is a big
box-office hit,
and it was just
announced that
LaBeouf has been
cast in a large but
yet undefined role
Shia LaBeouf
in the upcoming
Steven Spielberg
film, Indiana Jones IV. He may play
Harrison Ford's son (Like Shia, Ford
is Jewish on his mother's side).
In 2005, Shia wrote this short
essay for/ Am Jewish, a book of
essays, mostly by famous Jews,
that were inspired by the last
words of journalist Daniel Pearl,
who was murdered by Islamic ter-
rorists because he was Jewish. /
Am Jewish was edited by Judea
Pearl, Daniel's father.
LaBeouf writes: "First off, let me
make clear that I am in no way a
Jew who attends Shabbat every
Friday or puts tefillin on before I go
to sleep. I am what you would call
a claimer Jew. See, I claim to be
Jewish because it is beneficial to
be Jewish. I benefit from saying, 'I
am Jewish.' How?
"I have a personal relationship
with God that happens to work
within the confines of Judaism.
Judaism to me is the name of the
telephone in my heart that allows
me to speak to God.
"Really, I feel cocky when I say I
am Jewish, not bad cocky, but good
cocky. Because what I am really
saying is that I am one of the few
chosen ones out there. I made it;
God chose me, and I take pride in
that." Il

In pre-World War I England, Inspector Goole calls on the wealthy Birling family to investigate
the cruel death of a young girl. Might they be implicated in what appears to be the suicide of a
stranger? Will the Inspector's scrutiny penetrate the facade of their seemingly friendly and
close-knit family? Is it possible, that even in the finest of households, things are seldom what
they seem to be?
