She said faith in God and commit-
ment to Israel kept them strong.
Broadcasts of Yom HaZikaron
and Yom HaAtzmaut programs
from Jerusalem also were shown.
Near the end of the memorial
program, the mood changed to one
of celebration with seventh-grade
girls from Yeshivat Akiva perform-
ing with Israeli flags. The evening
concluded with Israeli foods and
desserts, singing and dancing.
To continue the celebration, a
concert by Heedoosh and Blue
Fringe was scheduled the following
evening.
Yom HaAtzmaut celebrations
continue on Sunday, May 6, with 50
organizations and businesses join-
ing together to sponsor a daylong
series of events including a speaker,
Hadassah's Family Fun Fair, a com-
munity picnic, a 1.8-mile walk and
entertainment. The event starts
at 11 a.m. at Temple Shir Shalom,
Orchard Lake and Walnut Lake
roads, West Bloomfield. The walk
starts at 1:30 p.m. and ends with
an Israeli festival at Temple Israel

In conjunction with the festivi-
ties, there will be a 7 p.m. May 8

Community House sponsored by
