The program, free and open to the public, will include a candlelighting ceremony and memorial service recalling those who have given their lives for Israel's independence. Victims of the Second Lebanon War and the MIAs and POWs of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also will be remembered. An officer from the Israel Defense Forces will represent the military and speak at the cer- emony. The Yom HaZikaron program is modeled after the community pro- grams held in Israel honoring the sons and daughters of Israel's heroes who have given their lives as well as those who live on with courage and hope. One of the most moving moments of the program will be a minute of silent reflection while a siren is sounded. For information, contact Jason Charnas, (248) 642-1645. Another Yom HaZikaron program will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, at the Jewish Community Center in Oak Park.
