The cozy space is home to a rustic iron
breakfast table, as well as Annie's McCoy
and Rookwood pottery collection, whose
greens and yellows pop against crisp
white built-in shelves.
In addition to her indoor natural
habitat, Annie also tends to her inspira-
tion. Hibiscus, hydrangea, lilacs, hostas
and ferns provide a serene sanctuary
amid a landscape peppered with a tri-
color beech, a Japanese purple-leaf maple
and a weeping spruce. Enormous boulders surround the pool, giving it "a
very Southwestern look," says Annie. Peeking out amid swaths of greenery
are sculptural pieces of garden art, which Annie snatches up when visiting
favorite haunts, from the annual Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair (where
she found a colorful fish) to the Royal Oak Farmer's Market Flea Market
(metal sunflowers). "I love things that look old," she adds. "Much of it I
keep outside throughout the winter."
While Annie tends to her collections and garden, "Rob takes care of
the pond," Annie says of the stone-surrounded home to koi (Japanese
carp), water lilies and other aquatic flora. "He gets so excited when he sees
a water lily about to bloom." 0
