editor's letter MISSION STATEMENT Platinum is a monthly, glossy life- style magazine published by the Detroit Jewish News. It reflects all aspects of life in the Metro Detroit Jewish community, includ- ing decor, fashion, food, health, spirituality, books, shopping and more. Whether profiling a unique member of our community or the latest hot spot or trend you should know about, Platinum's got it cov- ered. Our goal is to be a part of the fabric of the Jewish commu- nity and to reflect those who have FROM 18TH-CENTURY ENGLISH SUNDIALS to delicate jewel-toned glassware, from antique win- dowpanes to funky topiary designs, Detroit Garden Works (below) in Sylvan Lake offers a magical, mysteri- ous — and handcrafted — world for gardeners and non-gardeners alike to take glorious advantage of. Platinum did. Owners Deborah Silver and Rob Yedinak opened the doors to the Garden Works' 10,000 square feet of studio space — like an enormous textural museum of exquisite objects visitors are allowed to touch and take home — and offered us free reign of their playground to photograph spring's prettiest frocks. To see the results of the shoot, turn to "All Dressed Up" on page 35. Want more gardens? In this issue, we fea- ture a serene Japanese garden, lovingly created over the course of 30 years, in Royal Oak (see "Serenity In The Shade" on page 26). And in Bloomfield Township, a passionate collector shows us how she brought her love of the out- doors (and her outdoors are spectacular) inside her home ("Nature All Around" on page 30). Whether you've got a green thumb or not (I'd be the latter), we hope these beautiful pages inspire you — to grow a garden or go shopping — and get you geared up for spring. Lynne Konstantin, editor lkonstantin@thejewishnews.com created it — our readers. Editor's Note: In "Love Story," on page 25 of the March issue of Platinum, the source for Tracy and Gabe Rubin's wedding invitations should have read Encore III Stationery in West Bloomfield. We regret the error. • JN LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE giveaway A new winner every month! visit JNonline.us for details last month's winner 4 TICKETS TO Alicia, of West Bloomfield, won March's ZENSATIONAL CANDLE HOLDER FROM SWEET CHARITY OStUdiO36 AT THE FISHER THEATRE MAY 1st at 8PM Congratulations!
