ROBERT L. WILLENS, 88, of West
Bloomfield, died March 23, 2007.
He was born in Nashua, N.H.,
the youngest of three brothers. He
attended Boston University, graduat-
ing with a bachelor's
degree in business
administration. He
was active in college
theater, where he
met his beloved wife
of 65 years, Shirley.
After moving to
Willens
the Detroit area in
1953, he joined his brother Lionel
and opened Shifrin-Willens Jewelers,
which grew to become the Midwest's
largest retail jewelry chain.
He was president of the
Metropolitan Detroit Retail Merchants
Association, served on the board
of the ACO Hardware Company
and helped many small businesses
achieve success through his work as
a volunteer adviser for over 30 years
at SCORE (Service Corps of Retired
Executives), a division of SBA.
He was an active member of Tam-

0-Shanter Golf and Country Club and
was honored there at an Israeli Bond
Dinner, recognizing him for his sup-
port of the State of Israel.
Mr. Willens is survived by his lov-
ing wife, Shirley Willens; daughters
and sons-in-law, Margie and Michael
Hirsch of Commerce Twp., Debbie
Willens and Loren Stewart of West
Bloomfield; son and daughter-in-law,
Dr. Hal and Gail Willens of Petosky;
grandchildren Dr. Ronald (Julie)
Hirsch, Greg (Francie) Hirsch, Steven
Hirsch and fiancee. Allison Singer,
Mark (Brooke) Golding, Julie (Gary)
Haymann, David, Katy, Rebecca and
Andrew Willens; 10 great-grand-
children; brother and sister-in-law,
Dr. Sumner and Marilyn Willens of
Florida.
He was the dear brother of the late
Lionel Willens.
Internment at Temple Israel
Gardens of Beth El Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to the
National Parkinson Foundation or a
charity of one's choice. Arrangements
by Dorfman Chapel.

SLATKIN, 79, of
Pompano Beach, Fla.,
formerly of Michigan,
died March 21, 2007.
A retail salesperson,
his true love was
music.
Slatkin
Mr. Slatkin is sur-
vived by daughters and a son-in-law,
Robin and Shepley Goldberg and Jody
Heaslet; eight grandchildren; sister and
brother-in-law, Zenia and Jerome "Bud"
Singer. He was the beloved brother of
the late Telford Slatkin.
Interment at Clover Hill Park

of 46 years, Rena Tepman of West
Bloomfield; son and daughter-in-law,
Larry and Suzan Tepman of Oak Park;
daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and
Jason Dickman of Farmington Hills;
granddaughter, Evie Dickman; brother-
in-law, Carl Lippitt; mother-in-law, Ida
Schwartz: cousin, Fredella Berlin; many
other loving family members and
friends.
He was the loving son of the late
Louis and the late Pauline Tepman;
cherished son-in-law of the late David
Schwartz; brother of the late Sally
Lippitt.
