A new women's Passover program, complete with creative table settings, unique recipes and intriguing conversation, was truly different from all other nights. More than 175 women attended "Exodus from the Ordinary" March 7 at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills. The event, sponsored by the women's department of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, took the place of the annual Women's Seder. Organizers said they wanted to try something different. Rivy Poupko Kletenick, speaker 38 March 22 2007 "The Women's Seder has been done for many years; I think they just needed a change," said co-chair Norma Dorman of West Bloomfield. "We wanted to do some- thing that would catch the attention of multi-generations but still leave people inspired." The program touched on several aspects of the Passover holiday: Area synagogue sisterhoods put together creative seder tables displays, including one with oragami frogs. Local kosher caterers provided samples of Passover treats from charoset to desserts. And guest speaker Rivy Poupko Kletenick, head of the Seattle Hebrew Academy, gave a Torah study with a twist. "She talked about sex and birth related to different parts of the Passover story; she really got everyone's attention;' said Dorman. Participants got a cookbook full of Passover recipes to take home. Co-chair Hadas Bernard of Birmingham said she's looking forward to trying some new dishes. "There was a wonderful apple, pistachio and ginger charoset that I'm planning to make in addition to tradi- tional charoset," Bernard said. "We all have our own ways of making the Passover seder special."
