was 14, she was voted by her
middle school classmates as
most likely to become a real estate agent.
Now she is studying to become a doctor at
Nova Southeastern Medical School in Fort
Lauderdale.
David Einhorn was voted most likely
to become a star in the National Basketball
Association. Now he is a real estate agent
for Keller Williams.
The two were excited to see if their
fellow classmates lived up to the pre-
dictions during the Hillel Day School
of Metropolitan Detroit Class of 1996
10-Year Reunion. Twenty-five Hillel
graduates gathered at the Blue Martini in
Birmingham to share memories, laughter
and reunite with old friends.
When everyone arrived, the room was
filled with excitement; people could not
hug each other quickly enough. Almost
immediately, the group began to feel like
a family again, making it clear the impact
Hillel had on each of our lives.
Aaron Beals of West Bloomfield and
Josh Zwickl of Chicago worked together
to organize the event. "Josh and I could
not believe it had been 10 years since we
graduated from Hiller Beals said. "Hillel

was special because it was different than
any other school. We were not only class-
mates, we were a family. Josh and I knew it
was time for a reunion."
Zwickl was not the only one who
came in from out of town for the event.
Classmates also traveled from New York,
Florida and California.
Brooke Weingarden flew in from
Florida. "After 10 years, I was interested to
see what everyone was doing and where
life has taken them;' Weingarden said.
"Hillel made the time we bonded together
as a class a large part of our education. We
had a huge impact on each other's lives,
even if we did not realize it at the time."
Of the 25 individuals that came to the
reunion, 16 have either stayed in Metro
Detroit after college or returned to the
area years later. After graduating from
West Bloomfield High School, Mychal
Glass went to college in Los Angeles; four
years later, she moved back to Detroit,
where she lives with her husband.
"Hillel made me the person I am today."
Glass said. "I always knew that I would
come back to Detroit to raise my family. I
want my children to one day go to Hillel
and have the feeling of community I had
at school"
Other classmates that came to the
reunion include Ari Scharg and Sam
Schey of Chicago, Michal Newman

Mychal Glass of West Bloomfield and

and Alana Herman of Royal Oak, Laya
Barak and Brad Chicorel of New York,
Jacob Cohen of Detroit, Sara Iden of
West Bloomfield and Daniel Weckstein
of Ann Arbor.
Although many people had not seen
each other since graduation, it was clear
by the end of the night that everyone
would not let another 10 years go by
before seeing each other again. We were a
family at Hillel and, wherever we end up,
we will always have that bond. P1
