Thanks, Dorothy.

items for clients.

In these tough economic times in Michigan, few have been
untouched. Many have been affected drastically, losing insur-
ance, cars, even homes.
We want to know how you've had to alter your lifestyle to
cope with our depressed economy. Have you started coloring
your own hair? Are you using more food coupons at the grocery
store? Are you cooking at home more, rather than eating out?
Have you cut down on your lattes?
We also want to know what tips you have to share with oth-
ers. We're all in this together, you know. Send your tips and
ways you've changed your lifestyle to JN Senior Writer Shelli
Liebman Dorfman at sdorfman®thejewishnews.com or 29200

4- Recently, I attended the
i American Dietetic Asso-
,\ ciation Food and Nutrition
t,\-/ Conference in Hawaii.
It so happened (perhaps
-)
,,,, serendipitously) that the
Oncology Nutrition Di-
) etetic Practice Group (of
which I am a member)
/ sponsored a lecture on
// breast cancer that I was
able to attend.

A Play To Remember 30

The lecture's over-arch-
ing emphasis was on long-term
lifestyle improvements that include
a strong focus on regular exercise,
maintaining an appropriate body
weight (particularly among post-
menopausal women), and reducing
saturated fats, refined sugar/carbo-
hydrate intake. Adding more fruits
and vegetables (i.e., switching to
more of a plant-based diet) was
strongly encouraged. These admo-
nitions were deemed particularly
important for someone undergoing
chemotherapy.
