(Crown Books, $22.95). Flip it over and from the other side it's The Sweet
Potato Queens' Divorce Guide. Browne's tongue is definitely in her cheek
as she offers sidesplitting advice on both getting hitched and unhitched to
the man of your dreams (or your nightmares).
Her main advice? "Live it up. If you read both ends of this book, you can
avoid the bad one. You go from being the bride to the very next day being
just a wife married to that husband. It's one of the more rude awakenings
in the universe. We need to spend way more
time preparing for the marriage than for the
wedding."
She explains, "I feel a strong sense of spiri-
tual mission. Dressing up and acting stupid lets
us get outside ourselves, makes us stronger to
go back and tote that load when you have to.
And in my experience that load will be there.
"If you don't love life, change it. It's too
short when you're happy, too long when you're
miserable."
And guess what? Though Browne isn't Jewish, she's got a brother-in-law
who is a rabbi.
