without the Brown Program

Days filled with
laughter, friends,
caring

I couldn't go to work every

day. I don't worry, because at

the Brown Center, my mother

• A safe haven,

a professional staff

is safe and happy, enjoying

herself with new friends. The

Brown Program is fabulous.

T

he Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit
will hold its Countdown
phone-a-thon 6:30-9 p.m. Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19-
21, at the Max. M. Fisher Federation
Building, 6735 Telegraph,
Bloomfield Township.
A joint effort between communi-
ty volunteers, congregations, Jewish
agency board members and staff,
Countdown secures pledges and
encourages new gifts to Federation
through thousands of calls to
Jewish households in Metro Detroit.
The event is co-chaired by Debbie
Berger and Brad "Bubba" Urdan.
"People don't always realize it,
but each and every gift of time or
money makes a real difference in
the lives of those in need in our
community," Urdan said. "More
than 90 cents of every dollar we
raise directly impacts the quality of
services we provide for families in
crisis, older adults, many who have
nowhere else to turn."
Federation's $48 million goal
for 2007 includes $33 million to
support social services and educa-
tional programs of 19 local agen-
cies as well as overseas needs, and
another $15 million designated to
rebuilding lives in Israel through
the Marvin and Betty Danto Family
Israel Emergency Challenge Fund.
Federation's partner agencies,
schools and congregations will
compete for the Golden Phone
Award for the highest percentage
of board members participat-
ing as volunteers and the highest
number of new gifts secured from
their respective organizations. Fifty
percent of every new gift closed by
an agency or congregation during
Federation's Countdown is returned
to the organization.

Countdown, contact Joey Selesny at
