Restaurant Recognition

Bonnie's Kitchen matures in Bloomfield.

A

lthough she gained much note, it
was usually for everything except
what her restaurant really was
... People even thought it strictly a bakery,
which it started out as back in 1980.
Finally, as Bonnie's Kitchen on Telegraph
and Maple, Bloomfield Township, the
bakery-only image has been shaken, and
except for table service it has attained the
status searched for all these years ... that of
being a restaurant.
The formerly named Bonnie's Patisserie
that moved from Northwestern Highway
two years ago to its present location, has
reached birthday number 27 in the knowl-
edge that people are finding out much more
about it.
Owner Bonnie Fishman's little restaurant,
a former Leo's Coney Island, is much like
numerous kind of spots found on the West
Coast, but are not too numerous in this part
of the country.
Seating at Bonnie's Kitchen is for only 18
in a small dining room, along with another
nine counter seats that front a huge, clean,
stainless-steel-filled open kitchen.
People look into the neat showcases
and select from delicious fare prepared by
Executive Chef Joan Melnick, with Bonnie
14 years, and Executive Pastry Chef Kathy
Friedman, a 23-year veteran with Bonnie.
The glass counters are filled with goodies
sold for consumption on the premises or
for carry-out ... everything made on the
spot, from around 15 salads, macaroni and
cheese, meat lasagna, stuffed portabella,
salmon patties, chicken dishes, veal meat-
balls, etc. ... along with five grilled paninis,
roll-ups, brisket with caramelized onions
and so very much more ... plus daily
rotating soups of all kinds ... There are

your article where you mentioned TooJay's
Deli. Not only did we eat at TooJay's in Coral

beef sandwiches, clearly didn't leave a drop
of food on his plate at both Florida delica-

the Detroit area has the best delis anywhere
