my usual
question and
answer for-
mat this week
to talk about
the Month of
March—not the part about how
it can come in like a lion ... (you
already know that)—but the fact
that March is designated National
Nutrition Month (NNM) by the
American Dietetic Association.

Among other things, NNM is
designed to focus attention on the
importance of making informed
food choices and developing sound
eating and physical activity
1/- habits.

I think of NNM as a time to
make a conscience corn-
mitment to yourself and
those you love to explore
new healthy foods, exer-
cise more sensibly, and
do your best to work to-
wards disease prevention
through better nutrition.

Depending on life-circum-
stances, NNM can have a
different meaning/emphasis for
different people, for example:
• Maternal and paternal nutrition,
even prior to conception, can af-
fect the newborn;
• Parents should review (and adjust
whenever possible) what their
children eat and physically do
both in and outside the home;
• People of all ages should try to
eat/exercise to promote health,
maintain appropriate weight, pre-
vent disease, and delay aging.

A qualified dietitian/nutritionist
can help fill in the specifics.
