Shir Shalom hosts winter
NFTY gathering.

ore than 100 teens from across Michigan gathered at Temple Shir
Shalom in West Bloomfield late last month for a regional winter
gathering, or kallah, of the National Federation of Temple Youth

(NFTY).
Sponsored by the Union of Reform Judaism, Northeast Lakes Council, the
teens explored their Jewish identity surrounding the idea of faith and also par-
ticipated in social action. environmental programs and an educational program
on the Messiah.
Attendees were hosted by Shir Shalom families, who helped throughout the
weekend by serving meals and helping with programs, under the coordination
of Pam Kornfield, Joe Firestone and Jenny Nathan.
Teens enjoyed a dance on Saturday evening, including a private concert from
singer Dan Nichols and his band Eighteen.
"Planning the kallah was tough, but it was worthwhile and fun," said Shir

died Feb. 12, 2007.
He was a sausage

BOYD CARNICK, age 89, of
Highland Beach, Fla., died Feb. 18,
2007.
An executive and an owner of
Copco Steel and Engineering Co., he is
survived by his wife, Ruth Carnick of
Highland Beach; daughters and sons-
in-law, Harriet and Larry Kepes of
West Bloomfield, Joan and Dr. Avrum
Stein of Houston, Texas, Linda and
Dr. Leonard Sahn of Orchard Lake,
Barbara and David Crossen of San
Francisco; grandchildren, Carolyn
Kepes, Amy and Rick Blake, Laurie
Kepes and her fiance, Ronald Selik,
Jayme and Scott Morgan, Dr. Joshua
and Dr. Andria Stein, Jeffrey and Sara
Stein, Nathaniel and Laurie Sahn,
Jessica and Dr. Michael Ober, Sarah
Sahn, Daniel Crossen; great-grandchil-
dren, Ari Blake, Ella Rose Morgan, Sax
Morgan, Renn Stein, Cole Stein and
Maya Ober; brother and sister-in-law,
Harry and Elaine Carnick.
Mr. Carnick was the beloved brother
and brother-in-law of the late Lyle and
the late Helen Carnick, the late Arthur
and the late Ruth Carnick.
Interment at Clover Hill Park

IRVIN FELDMAN of Florida,
formerly of Michigan, died Feb. 14,
2007. He was the owner of Livernois
Davison Florist, which was started by
his father and is continued today by
his son and daughter-in-law.
He is survived by his children,
Donna Feldman, Stuart and Marcy

Feldman; grandchildren, Denise
Maggio, Shari Ricks, Scott and
Marisela Zack, Eric Feldman, Kelli and
James Guidone; two great-grandchil-
dren; sisters, Blanche Haas and Rhoda
Shuman; brother, Robert "Dr. Bob"
Feldman. Mr. Feldman was the beloved
husband for 43 years of the late Opal
Feldman and the devoted son of the
late Alice and the late Henry Feldman.
Services were held in Florida.

ROBERT GOLDMAN, 79, of Boca
Raton, Fla., formerly of Farmington
Hills, died Feb. 9, 2007.
He is survived by his beloved
wife, Beverly Goldman of Boca

Lake, Jacquelyn and Charles Ghawi
of Huntington Woods; sons and
daughters-in-law, David and Melissa
Goldman of West Bloomfield, Alan and

and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Hans
Preisler of Hudson, Fla.; grandchil-
dren, Nicole and John Lobsiger, Rachel
and Michael Goldman, Madison and
Hannah Goldman, John and Henry
Ghawi.

RALFORD GOREN, age 82, of
Sunrise, Fla., formerly of Port Huron,
died Feb. 16, 2007. He was a World
War II Marine veteran and served in
Japan. The owner of Detroit Steel and
Joist and also Dean's Book Center, he
was a past president of Kiwanis and a
director at the Great Lakes Fabricator
and Erectors Association and the Port
Huron Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife of 34
years, Diane Goren; children, Sara
Lee Goren, Thomas and Leah Goren,
Neal Goren and his partner, Lewis;
stepchildren, Steven and Barbara
Weiner, Michael Weiner and Wendy
Rothenberg, Donna and Jeffrey Lark-
Weiner, David and Joy Weiner, Susan
and Michael Jaffe; 17 grandchildren,
two great-grandchildren; sister,
Marion Tasman.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.
