Youth Choirs Sing
On Sunday, March 11, 200 children
will come together in concert at New
Zimriyah! 2007, a communitywide
musical program featuring Jewish
youth choirs from several local con-
gregations as well as the Kidz Klez
Band of Michigan.
With the theme "Holidays Around
the Year," the New Zimriyah! 2007
will be held at 2 p.m. at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek Southfield. Admission
is free and light refreshments will be
served; dietary laws observed.
Congregations participating in
the program include: Adat Shalom
Synagogue, Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, Temple Beth El, Temple
Emanu-El, Temple Israel and Temple
Shir Shalom. Also taking part is Hillel
Day School of Metropolitan Detroit.

Rabbis Share Views
"Three Dynamic Rabbis, One Topic,
Three Points of View!" is the theme
of two series offered by Federation's
Alliance for Jewish Education's
Department of Lifelong Learning
and the Florence Melton Adult Mini-
School of Metropolitan Detroit.
Join Orthodox Rabbi Leiby
Burnham of Partners in Torah,
Conservative Rabbi Eric Yanoff
of Congregation Shaarey Zedek
and Reform Rabbi Aaron Starr of
Congregation Shir Tikvah to share in
text study and discussion. Each rabbi
will take one session to offer his per-
spective on the subject. At the end of
the series, the rabbis will engage in a
panel discussion.
Classes will be held Tuesdays 9:30-
11 a.m. at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield.
Series 1 — "From Ogling to
Obligations: Sex and Sexuality in
Judaism" will run March 7, 13, 20, 27.
Series 2 — "From Shuffling to
Shabbat: Tasting the World-to-Come"
meets April 17, 24, May 1, 8.
The cost for one four-week series is

Beth Shalom Scholar
Rabbi Mitchell Hurvitz of Temple
Sholom in Greenwich, Conn., will be
scholar in residence at Congregation
Beth Shalom Feb. 23 and 24.
Rabbi Hurvitz will speak at
Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday,
followed by dinner and discussion.
On Saturday, he will speak at Shabbat
services and at a lunch and learn fol-
lowing services.
Rabbi Hurvitz has been rabbi of
Temple Sholom in Greenwich, Conn.,
since 1995. He is co-author of The
Encyclopedia of Judaism and is a
regular columnist for the Greenwich

Readying For Pesach

"Illuminations: Exodus from the
Ordinary."
With keynote commentary by Rivy
Poupko Kletenik, the event will be
6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at
Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Kletenik teaches and lectures
nationwide. She is head of school at
the Seattle Hebrew Academy.
At "Illuminations," there will be a
sampling of Passover foods and wine,
recipes from local chefs and seder
table settings presented by Detroit
area sisterhoods.
Cost is $36. Reservations are
requested by March 2 and can be
