Tree Toasting

Young adults mark Tu b'Shevat at wine-tasting.

sing the fruit of the vine to toast the trees, more than 50 young adults gathered at the Farmington
Hills home of Robbie and Scott Sherman for a festive Tu b'Shevat wine tasting and celebration.
Partygoers enjoyed the rich, robust flavors of five Israeli wines from the Golan Heights Winery and the
Recanati Winery in the Galilee.
The event, sponsored by the Imagine Group of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, also
featured traditional Israeli foods, Tu b'Shevat treats like dried fruits and nuts, and a
Havdalah service.
"Tu b'Shevat is the birthday of the trees:' said Temple Israel Rabbi Jennifer Tisdale of
Commerce Township. "The holiday mainly represents spring in Israel, but here it gives us
the hope that we know spring is coming."
Chardonnay and Cabernet from Israel were among the fine wines provided by Napa
Marketplace in Commerce Township. Participants sipped, socialized and enjoyed a meal
with other young Jewish adults ages 21-40.
"This is a great way to bring younger people together for a fun evening and to learn
more about the holiday': said hostess Robbie Sherman.
"We're just a little disappointed there wasn't any Manischewitz to taste," joked Jason
Klein of Bloomfield Hills, who attended with his wife, Lisa.
Spotted in the crowd toasting the trees at the Jan. 27 event were: Mark Dizik of
Lathrup Village; Ryan Kaluzny of Royal Oak; Jeff Cymerint of Livonia; Rochelle and Rabbi Rob Morais
and Alyssa and Josh Tobias, all of Farmington Hills; Amber and Steve Gilmore of Redford; and Tracie and
Adam Fienman, Rachel Rubinlicht, Shawn and Al Broida and Jennifer and Todd Krieger, all of West
Bloomfield. '7!
