"Living at The Park at
Trowbridge has been a
wonderful change for me. I felt
at home right away. I've enjoyed
my apartment much more than
I ever would have imagined.

New stickers help easily identify

At first, I was worried that I'd
miss my old neighborhood. The
truth is that I've made a lot of
new friends through fitness
activities, crafts and other
things going on here.

My kids sometimes complain
that I'm never in my apartment
when they call, but I know it
puts their minds at ease that
I'm so busy.

"That is why we're eliminating any
barriers to enrolling, and making the
process as simple as possible. A single
donor can save or enhance the lives
of up to 50 people, so the decision of
one individual can deeply touch many
people. We want everyone to say 'yes' to
donation and show us their heart."
Michigan law supports residents'
rights to make their own donation
decisions and no further consent is
required once they enroll on the reg-
istry.
Land said that those who have reg-
istered in the past should re-enroll to
receive the heart sticker.
Plans are under way
to eventually "brand"
donors' driver's licenses
and ID cards with a
heart logo, replacing
the need for the stick-
ers.

Though they were always support-

Shay's 2004 heart transplant spurred
them into advocacy. Shay now is 3. The
couple work to spread awareness and

about organ donation at events like the
annual Gift of Life walk,
where they participated
on "Shay's Team."
Lisa emphasized that
signing the back of your

enough to make you a
donor. You also must
sign up on the organ
donor registry.
