he bar's name alone makes it sound like the perfect place to mix and
mingle; the Mixx Lounge in Novi was the site of the first bar night
of the year for the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit. About 75 Jewish singles and couples in their 20s and 30s
gathered to shake off the winter chill and meet new friends at the trendy martini
bar on Main Street which opened last summer.
"We had a great turnout considering how cold it was:' said YAD Director
Jennifer Levine of Pleasant Ridge. "It was nice to see so many new faces:' added
YAD president-elect Brad "Bubba" Urdan of West Bloomfield. "The party went
on until about midnight."
Participants enjoyed cocktails and conversation; among them was Sara
Zonder, 28, of Birmingham. She moved back a year and a half ago after several
years in Washington, D.C. Zonder co-chaired the bar night along with Stephanie
Rosenbaum of Huntington Woods.
"It's a great way to meet people and network; you run into old friends and
make new ones:' Zonder said. "It also proved that on a freezing cold night people
were willing to travel west of Telegraph and Orchard Lake for a fun night out!'
Among others attending the Jan. 25 bar night crowd were: Ted Rogers and Jill
Munro, both of Huntington Woods; Jason Chess of Royal Oak; Gene Goodman
of Bloomfield Hills; Jamie Brunstein of Ferndale; Jordan Glass, Jenny
Rosenthal and Aaron Scheinfield, all of West Bloomfield; Rachel Wright of
Birmingham; Sherri Lavine of Southfield; Jeremy Crane of Berkley; and Emily
Reetz of Detroit. Li
The next YAD bar night will be at 9 p.m. Feb. 22 at Crust in Bloomfield Township.
