ewish day schools showed their literary prowess in the Southfield Public
Library's annual Battle of the Books, which encourages the sport of reading
and recognizes students who like to read.
The by-grade competition is open to students who live or go to school in Southfield.
"For students in Jewish day schools, it may seem that a dual curriculum is enough to
keep even the brightest students busy from early morning to late in the afternoon',' said
Lisa Parshan. "Even with all the pressure, some students still manage to devote their
precious time to extra-curricular activities that balance academics with team spirit and
co-operation!'
She described Battle of the Books as "a responsibility and reliance upon team-
mates to read remember and retain detailed information about the seven assigned
books. Each team that chooses to participate in the battle should wear their badge with
pride."
